How mobile technology has changed our lives

How mobile technology has changed our lives

Working on an innovative new range of tech really got us thinking about all the ways in which the use of mobile technology is allowing us to save time and do tasks more efficiently, freeing ourselves up to focus on other things. It seems like almost anything is available at the touch of a button from ordering food, to buying that new pair of shoes (that you 100% absolutely needed), and being able to have a face-to-face conversation with your friend in Australia right there on your screen (not jealous at all…) With this in mind, we came up with some great examples of how mobile technology has changed and continues to have a massive impact on our lives:

1. No post on Sundays – or any other day really(!)

The art of popping to the supermarket and carefully picking out the perfect card to post is no longer the primary means of letting someone know you’re thinking of them (or that they resemble a gorilla – sorry Dad!) An e-card, text, email or quick message via social media are now popular ways of sending greetings. If sending a traditional card is a must but you’re short on time, there are even websites and apps where you can choose a card, personalise the message and have it sent for you, all at the touch of a button. Great for efficiency but sadly not so great for the carrier pigeons.

2. Fancy a drink?

Online dating is not by any means a new concept, but the introduction of apps where you can instantly decide if the person is your Romeo or Rome-NO, are on the up. You can have a new date at the ready quicker than you can say “swipe right!” These apps help source potential dating candidates nearby, and allow you to instantly message them and arrange a face-to-face meeting. Because looking up from your phone and searching for potential dates using your own eyes is WAY too stressful…

3. Sharing’s caring

Social media allows us to share anything, anytime, anywhere at the touch of a button. Opinions can be shared, locations shown and photos instantly uploaded – there’s no longer a need to wait for the local weekly paper to find out your mate got engaged or had a baby. It’s awesome to be able to share these things with friends both nearby and worldwide, instantly. Just maybe avoid sharing intimate details about your partner’s stamp-collecting obsession – TMI!)

4. Yes – I’m STILL watching…

Gone are the days where you needed to wait a week to watch the next episode of your favourite show – assuming you could steal the remote off your flatmate. As much as their penchant for knitting programmes was bearable, it’s nice to be able to watch TV, movies and boxsets on demand from your mobile, either by streaming live or downloading them. Just make sure you remember your earphones – I’m not sure the other commuters will appreciate Game of Thrones war scenes at 7am in the morning…

5. Chit chat…

In the past, the main ways to communicate were via post, chatting over the landline or *shudders* actually talking to someone face-to-face. The emergence and advances of mobile technology means that we can talk to anyone, anytime, anywhere in the world at the touch of a button. From seeking assistance in an emergency to simply telling your mum some good news, smartphones allow us to do just that and more. We can text, video call, send emails, and more from almost anywhere on this planet TO almost anywhere on this planet. How many different ways you can connect to one person using your smartphone?

6. Never read Fitzgerald? You Gatsby kidding me!

Books are no longer a necessity should we want to read. Almost any book in the world is now accessible on our smartphones, tablets, and e-readers, meaning we don’t need to carry all our books around anymore (unless we want to – that is!)

7. Hold on, I’ll Google it…

Arguably, arguments have been made boring by advancements in mobile technology. In the past, you could go on for ages debating with family and friends over something you both thought you knew best about. Thanks to smartphones and instant access to the internet, you can quickly seek the answer to or information on literally anything. Good for keeping everyone happy, not so good for your bruised ego when you realise that you’ve been confidently singing the wrong song lyrics for years…

It’s easy to take mobile technology for granted but this article has shown just a few of the ways in which it is changing and continues to change how we live our day-to-day lives.

It really got us thinking – why can’t energy join in the fun?
