Energy-saving tips for Spring

Spring

The days are growing longer and we are almost ready to dig the barbecue out of the garage. Spring is upon us and we have some top tips to help you save energy and your earnings this season.

  1. Break out the barbecue
Invite friends and family round and have everybody bring a dish. If you don’t have a BBQ to drag out of the garage, you can always buy an instant one from the supermarket. They are relatively inexpensive, and you’ll save electricity by cooking outdoors on coals.
  1. Turn off the tumble drier
If it’s sunny, hang your clothes outside to dry. Save energy and money by not using the tumble drier. You can’t beat the freshness of line-dried clothes!
  1. Hold back on the heating
It may be getting warmer, but it is easy to forget to adjust the heating. Now’s the time to change the program! Set it to shorter cycles – coming on later and going off earlier – and you’ll see a real difference in your bills.
  1. Get some fresh air
Turn off the TV and read a book in the garden, or make some sandwiches and go for a picnic. Spring is a beautiful time of year, especially when the flowers are in bloom. You’ll save money on indoor activities and feel better for all that fresh air!
  1. Let there be light
Let natural light flood your house. Make sure curtains are pulled-back from windows and doors, and roll your blinds right up. It’s light from early in the morning until about 8pm, and it’s only going to get better. You’ll save money on electricity and you’ll feel the warmth of the sun.
