There’s a lot of talk at the moment about Smart Meters, particularly because the government aim to revolutionise the energy grid by having a smart meter in every home in the UK by 2020.
There are loads of advantages to going Smart, but what exactly is a Smart Meter and why would you want one?
Smart puts you in control!
A smart meter is a great way to keep an eye on how much you’re spending on energy at home. An easy-to-use display monitor, or In-home Display (IHD), will show users exactly how much is being spent around the house in real time.
Your meters will also send your usage information back to us automatically, so you’ll never have to read the meter again. This also means estimated bills will become a thing of the past, with usage tallying up on a daily basis and customers only paying for the energy they use.
It’s easy to use more energy than you need without realising you’re doing it. Smart meters can help to change that and here’s a few of the benefits of having one in your home.
- It’s totally free and puts you in control of your energy.
- You can see the exactly how much electricity and gas you’re using in pounds and pence.
- Your IHD can show you which appliances are using the most energy, and once you know that you can start to use them more efficiently, helping you to save money.
- Your smart meter will send us regular updates on your energy usage automatically, so you’ll receive accurate bills without having to submit a meter reading!
We’re starting to roll out smart meters to some of our customers right now, so we’ll be in touch if that means you! If we don’t get in touch straight away, don’t worry – we’ll soon let you know when you can request one.
